'This is not a one-time experience, it's a life altering practice!' - former FIZZ member.

Be part of Girls' Brigade Europe FIZZ team with Fields of Life in Uganda.

20 July to 3 August 2019

What will I be doing?

FIZZ Uganda 2019 will be an exciting and transformative experience with two distinct focuses:

A) Investing in you!

Before you invest in others, we're going to invest in you.

How is your relationship with God?

Are you able to take a moment to breathe and be still?

During FIZZ 2019, a proportion of each day will be spent in worship, Bible exploration and discussion.

As part of the FIZZ Uganda 2019 team, you'll be invested in and developed as disciples.

B) Investing in others!

You'll have many opportunities to invest in others.

The team will be based at Grace Christian Primary School in Kacungwa in Mubende district of Uganda (see photo below). The team focus will be on projects and initiatives empowering girls and women including delivering menstrual health hygiene classes, distributing I AM Girl menstrual health packs, workshops and children's programmes. The final schedule will be tailored to the interest and the skills of the team.

Who can be part of FIZZ 2019?

We're looking for FIZZ team members who:

You're the kind of person who loves getting to know new people and discovering new cultures.

You don't need to know the answers to all the 'big' questions but you'll have a passion for deepening your relationship with God.

You know that things don't always go to plan... and understand that sometimes Plan B is better than Plan A.

'We' is always better than 'me.'

This is not just a two week trip - you'll be committed to fundraising, attending a team building weekend and sharing your experience when you return home.

Some FAQs?

How much will it cost?

You'll need to raise c. £1,600 for this life-changing experience. Here's the cost breakdown:

  • Accommodation and food in Uganda and all in-country travel costs including vehicle hire, driver and fuel.
  • Flights from Amsterdam to Uganda (as the team is travelling from across the UK, it will be easier to meet in Amsterdam).
  • Fields of Life's comprehensive travel insurance.
  • A Fields of Life's Link worker for the duration of the trip.
  • A flight to and from your nearest airport to Amsterdam (you will need to arrange it yourself but an estimate is included in the cost)
  • Food, accommodation and materials at a one-night team-building residential in March 2019 (venue is TBC and some people may have to book a flight).

Don't let the cost put you off: you may be surprised how many people will want to invest in you and in Uganda. [We can help provide a fundraising pack]. Please note that the above price is an estimate based on a minimum amount of team members. Costs may decrease or increase depending on the number of team members.

Are there any additional costs?

You will have to arrange your own visa, anti-malarials and vaccinations.

Where will I be staying?

You'll be staying in a safe and comfortable house with access to all the normal amenities.

Who will lead the trip?

GB Europe have trained and equipped volunteer FIZZ team Co-ordinators who will be leading the mission trip in conjunction with a Fields of Life link worker.

How will the team be chosen?

The team will be chosen to reflect the criteria described above. We hope to have an intergenerational team from across UK and Ireland with a diverse set of giftings and experiences. Once applications have been received, you may be contacted by FIZZ Co-ordinators to arrange a short chat and we will ask your referees for a reference. We hope to confirm the team as early as possible in November.

What are FIZZ mission teams?

FIZZ is an initiative launched by Girls' Brigade Europe, fulfilling the global vision of GB: Girls' lives transformed... God's world enriched. FIZZ mobilises a new generation of women to serve communities around the world; joining, pioneering and enabling projects that restore hope for life. FIZZ teams have previously served in Kosova and South Africa.

What's different about being part of a GB Europe FIZZ team?

The main difference is that you will be part of an intergenerational team of Girls' Brigade members from across the UK and Ireland. The opportunity to meet and work alongside GB members from other countries is one of the unique aspects of being part of a FIZZ team. Every year, FIZZ team members have told us that the opportunity to meet their GB global family has been one of the highlights!

FIZZ transformation stories

Personally my experience will remain with me for a long time, the woman I shared this with - Barbara, Sandy and Hazel - have each a place in my heart that will stay forever.  The fellowship, the fun and the laughter was an oasis in the midst of our normally hectic lives and I have returned to Northern Ireland refreshed and enthusiastic for God's future plan for my life. I would recommend anyone considering a mission trip to "be courageous" regardless of age or experience.

- Tracey Davies from GB Northern Ireland, FIZZ Team 2016.

The highlight of my experience was just being out in George, being part of the community and being wanted, knowing that we were really helping and being part of the different groups whilst we were out there. I loved doing all the different tasks in the different parts of George that we visited and meeting the people we met, and the stories they all had to tell us were just amazing, hearing how God works in their lives was so encouraging! It was truly one of the best things I have ever done in my life

– Charlotte Crooks from GB England & Wales, FIZZ Team 2016.
